FEATURED WORK OF THE MONTH

Below is my opinion on why Marlowe decided to write a play he should not have known anything about...

The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus

ISBN-978-0-393-92151-9  (NAD)

This play displays a man (Dr. Faustus) who is skilled as a scientist, physician and well known as a scholar who becomes interested in necromancy, or black magic. After selling his soul to the devil Faustus slowly realizes he may have made a mistake. Go along with Dr. Faustus on this wild ride along one of the most debated religious controversies of it's time (NAD).

"Drama's filled with heroism focusing around great personna who ultimately destroy themselves with great passion and ambition. Covered in violence, passion and blood Marlowe's plays always capture a rare poetic beauty and dignity elevating them to a level of high art" - Columbia Encyclopedia

My Take...

Marlowe was known for being a trouble maker as well as being an atheist. This is why it is my take that he wrote this play in the efforts to unravel Christian followers. If a man that does not believe in God can depict a play that so accurately displays Christian beliefs, perhaps the word of God was in fact constructed by a man. I believe that Marlowe and Karl Marx may have agreed with each other when Marx said, "Religion is the opium of the people." Marlowe may have not been a communist, but he knew the quickest way to a person's wallet.
